Most of what makes furniture last is hidden, which is why we would rather you test it than trust a brochure. Our furniture is built in our own workshop near Goravigere, so anything below can be checked on the showroom floor and any question about how a piece was made can be answered by the people who made it. 1. The Wobble Test
Push the piece diagonally on a flat floor. A well-built table, chair or bed frame stays put; a poorly jointed one racks or creaks. Why we pass: structural joints are cut and fitted — mortise-and-tenon and corner-blocked frames — not just glued or stapled.
2. The Drawer Test
Open and close every drawer fully. It should run smoothly, sit flush and not skew. Look at the corners of the drawer box: dovetails are a sign of quality; staples are not.
3. The Weight Test
Solid wood and hardwood frames feel heavy for their size. Lift a corner or compare two similar pieces — a noticeably lighter one is often lower-grade board.
4. The Seat Test (Sofas and Chairs)
Sit down, get up and press the seat. High-density foam over proper suspension springs back evenly; low-density foam feels soft at first and stays dented. Sit at the edge and the middle — a flexing frame shows up here.
5. The Finish Test
Look along the surface under bright light and run a hand over it. It should be smooth and even, with no missed patches, drips or rough edges, and no strong chemical smell — a sign the finish was cured before leaving the workshop.
6. The Hardware Test
Swing every door and hinge. Doors should close without rubbing, and handles and screws should be firm. Loose hardware on a new piece is a warning about how everything else was assembled.
7. The Question Test
Ask what wood it is, how it was seasoned, what the internal frame is made of and what the foam density is. A maker who builds the piece can answer immediately. At SitnStay the answers are seasoned solid teak and sheesham, kiln-dried hardwood or BWP-grade ply frames and high-density foam.
8. The Repair Test
Ask what happens if something goes wrong in year three. Solid wood built with proper joinery can be repaired, tightened and refinished; a stapled board piece usually cannot. Since we build in our own workshop, repairs are handled by the people who made the piece.
